Featured Designer: Caroline Castles

Caroline Castles probably listens to Jimi Hendrix, wears a flower in her hair, and paints whimsical pictures of swirls and colors. She may but she may not. The way she described her upcoming Spring/Summer collection of Castles Couture, Disco Till You're Dead, there is no doubt that her designs thrive off the cool cats that did listen to Voodoo Child, pick wild flowers and dream in technicolor.

Her influence is deeply rooted in the 60's/70's style. She calls it "funky". A little bell bottom, a little leopard print, a little fun and a little runway. She was aiming for something that could be worn on the runway or hanging hot in a closet. Mission accomplished!

Her inspiration sprung from her new found love for bell bottoms. High wasted, low wasted. Actually, she has had a thing for them since they "came back" in elementary school... just really thought they were "cool". I dig.

She began designing from a school project, interesting. She was majoring in entrapeurship and business development and had to create a business for their thesis and final project. Her sister made clothes and her mother had always sown as well, so she based her project around making a company for her sister's clothing. Her sister transferred schools so she picked up where her sister left off. Learned to sow while building the business, she couldn't get enough and never looked back.

Her hopes are that her line is fun to watch and fun and to wear. I can't wait to see this collection at CORPUS. I am, as well, still stuck in the 60's. Catch you cool cats on the flip side. FAR OUT!
